"What sets [Gwen Bell] apart from the slew of young, hip pro-Facebookers out there is that she not only translates the complicated language of social media, she also teaches technologists to unplug." - Sheryl Sulistiawan, Fast Company

This Winter, Consider Your Reverberations: Introducing Reverb 10

Do you remember last year when we reviewed our year together with #best09?

This year, we're ramping it up.  The project now has its own site. We've invited authors to join us.

And, very importantly, we're we now!

Last year was intense and many of us knew we wanted to do it again. I'm excited to share the details with you now, a couple weeks in advance of the start of Reverb 10.

Reverb 10: Project Overview (Personal)

The end of the year approaches. Two weeks until the end of November. Really.

November is a notoriously hard month for many of us. December can be harder. For me, both are a challenge. My mom was in the final weeks of her life in November. We buried her in December. We buried her the first week of December. During all the preparations for holiday celebration, we mourned.

That juxtaposition between what I should be feeling - celebratory - and what I was experiencing - loss - has stayed with me in the years since her death. Since that winter in sixth grade I've gotten a bit melancholy and low at the end of the year.

That was until last year. Last year, I decided to do something about the melancholy and isolation I felt at the end of the year. I wanted to celebrate, to reflect on the year while allowing space for any sadness that needed to arise.

Whatever's arising is arising. So this year it's about considering our reverberations.

Reverberations. That's what this year has been for me - a study in, and consideration of, my reverberations in the world. Each word, each tweet. Each exchange given my fullest attention. Treating each moment as if it matters.

This year's project, then, is called Reverb 10. #reverb10.

Reverb 10: Project Overview (Vision & Details)

The Vision

31 days, 31 prompts, and a community to support you through it.

For Reverb 10 we invite you to take time in December to reflect on 2010 and decide what you'd like to manifest next year. Take some time to consider what reverberations you have sent/would like to send out into the world.

The Team

This year brings a number of changes. First, I have the pleasure and honor of introducing you to the team that will be supporting your writing.

Kaileen and I met in person for the first time last month during my trip to NC. She's a gem. Her superpower is dreaming something up and then manifesting it. When I saw her vision map I noticed we shared several of the same images. Kaileen is a woman to watch in 2011. I am so thrilled to be working on this project with her.

Cali is a salsa queen. She really is. She wears enormous hoop earrings which simply light her up when she's on the dance floor. But here's the thing. She doesn't just dance on the dance floor. She dances in her life. She's an inspiration to those who call her friend. And I'm so honored to know her.

The Support

You guys, this project is truly a labor of love. Many people jump in and just start helping out. We all benefit, and plan to highlight as many of you as possible.

These are the folks who are 100% behind the project who will support us in some way in the project. As the list grows, keep an eye on it for frequent updates. And if you're wanting to join in on the support side, read on.

The Details

Sign up starting next week, or get on the mailing list today, then each day during the month of December we'll provide a prompt. Reflect on the prompt and share however feels right for you. Some folks blog, some journal privately (see our tool suggestions for options), others take a photo. Use this time as an opportunity to listen to what the year past is trying to teach you.

Then, tweet, Facebook, Delicious or otherwise share what you've created to the Reverb community.

The Site

The Reverb 10 site is a beautiful expression of weeks of work from Kaileen, Cali and myself. We've poured our hearts into it and hope you spend some time exploring. If you have suggestions, email impact at reverb10.com. If you love it, tweet it up. It's definitely a source of pride for the three of us to give you a place to discover your own particular reverberation.

The Needs

The project will only be as amazing as you make it. Last year participants called it life-changing. That was my experience, too. It was one of the highlights of the year for me.

The first need is simply for your participation.

The second need is specific to authors. Last year I created 31 topics with the help of my friend Brandon. This year, we are inviting published authors (of the traditional variety) to contribute a prompt. We want to highlight published authors in hopes that you'll discover a new favorite and go buy all their books.

If you're one of those authors, or you have a friend who is one, have them get in touch before the end of November.

The third need is for more behind-the-scenes support. Do you love Delicious? Are you a Rapid Reader? Would you like to be a Creative Commenter? All of these roles (and more) need to be filled - and there's no such thing as too many supporters of all the writers out there.

Let us know (tweet at us using #reverb10 on Twitter or email us at: impact at reverb10.com) and we'll get you set up.

Finally, we're looking for one sponsor. If you think your company would be the perfect fit, shout.

The goals

These are the goals of Reverb 10

1. to provide end-of-year support to budding and experienced creatives.

2. to help you find your voice by simply listening to it, and allow you to encourage others to do the same

3. to consider and honor your reverberations as you transition into a new year

Although I am so excited for this, I am in complete and utter denial that it's been a year since #best09. Nope. I don't believe it.

I've been stuck on my personal blog (with all of my energy going into the weekly posts on SheThinks.com), so this is EXACTLY what I need.

Still, I don't accept that it's been a year. Stupid time flying by...
