I Teach

Holly Hoyt snapped this as I led a hands on social media session at the summit in Houston this weekend. The moment I saw it I smiled - remembering why it is I teach. I'm as passionate about learning as I am about teaching. I love to share what I know, I love the flicker of recognition in someone's eyes when it begins to click for them. I don't want to do it for you - but I want to help you do it yourself. I teach because that's what I was put here to do. Call it speaking, call it consulting, call it empowering others - call it what you will - teaching is the truest expression of my soul.

Thank you for telling the story in a single photo, Holly. It means a lot to me.

Gwen - you are a total inspiration! I teach too and my experience has been the same - it's exciting to see the growth happen before your very eyes. In my job, people make tangible things, which makes it a bit easier on me because they can easily measure success - it really takes a lot to teach people to communicate more meaningfully through technology, which says quite a lot about you. Your talent for this is shown in your enormous success - congratulations on rocking the house! Oh and happy wedding!!

Sarah, thank you! It means so much to hear you say that - I'm thrilled to watch the work you're doing in the world. And you're right that having a tangible piece of evidence goes a long way. Which is why I'm trying to get crafty. ;) Wish me luck! I'll be reading you for creative, crafty bits of inspiration!

This picture sums up my heart for teaching too. I love teaching people to paint. I especially love to soften stubborn or cranky people (of which I get a few) cuz it makes them have a magical moment and for a day we are all happy and playful...that's my favourite kind of day! I teach people with mental illness too and they have NO PROBLEM immersing themselves in the limitless nature of paint. Learning is absolutely essential to our upcoming future especially in tech and teachers like you are so necessary! All the best to you!
