Awkward Family Photos / Best Blog 2009
In honor of my favorite blog of 2009, Awkward Family Photos (see: my favorite pic), I give you Pageants & Proms: One woman's journey through tendrils, tulle and too much lipstick.
For the record, not only did I not win a pageant, I never even placed. But I did get Miss Photogenic once. For my efforts in shoe dyeing, no doubt.
Bonus awkward shots.
Glee Club. Which, in my high school was called Pizazz. And in this case can be called The David Bowie.
Also? A Chin Rest of Her Own.
[Q. What is this #best09 all about and how can I share my pageant photos or bests of 2009?
A. Oh, here you go.]

Um, Gwen...can we talk about how you just made my night? Thank you for sharing these photos.
Emily Drum Oh, you have only seen the tip of the iceberg. Let's hang in NYC soon & I'll bring a suitcase-full, mmk? Also, you are looking rock solid.
I love how you're resting your chin on your hand, and resting your elbow on... thin air. Classic. We all have some of these gems tucked away. Thanks for sharing yours.
I am really enjoying this post! Thank you for sharing!!
Wow, oh wow, oh wow. These photos of you kinda rocked the planet off its axis. I'm no exaggerating. I felt it, I swear... Okay, let me just say how much I love the embarrassing documentation we all have of our journeys from childhood into adulthood and then, when we're lucky, into ourselves. You have most definitely come into your self. These are beautiful for that very reason. And they're awesome because... well, because they're friggin awesome.
my claim to tiara-fame is when i was crowned the fair queen. which actually had more to do with my family's "position" in the small town and the dress i was wearing at the time than with anything else. although i did give an exceptionally good answer in the q&a section of the competition, if i do say so myself. but you stayed slim. i'm jealous. and i think i read somewhere that there's a law against that . . .
dying laughing.
also, i adore awkward family photographs. they slay me every day.
Thanks, G! Haha, I would fly to CO just to see more pics from back in the day. Def let me know when you're next in the city!
Emma pretty much said it: "These photos of you kinda rocked the planet off its axis." Thanks for sharing...my abdominal muscles thank you for the belly-laughing I was doing. :)
Glee Club is my all time favorite. Top of the heap without a doubt!! Love the tie. :-)
I love these photos though... :) And the dresses and gowns are not bad huh? Even the navy uniform looks well on you.
