Japan Day 2: Introducing the Crew
To start Day 2 off, I interviewed the crew. There are four of us in the crew. Here's the other three:
Patrick,
Kazue,
Joel.
Here's the interview questions and answers.
What site do you read daily?
Patrick: Peak Condition Project
Kazue: How About Orange
Joel: Daring Fireball
Sum yourself up in three words.
P: Uhm, I'm thinking.
K: Placid, natural, cosmo
J: Geek, learning, growing
How do you find balance?
P: Not taking life too seriously.
K: Yoga and projects (like making eye bags, knitting and learning - we're trying to get her to open an Etsy shop)
J: Finding my breath.
What do you do to stay healthy?
P: I have a Three Point Plan (said in a samurai voice) - Flexibility, Diet and Dynamic Movement
K: Exercise, eat fruit and laugh a lot
J: I'm still figuring it out
What's your favorite gadget that you couldn't live without?
P: Ukulele. Or...fiber optic internet connection
K: A soft bed
J: Laptop
So I took photos of each of them with their special gadget. You'll be seeing a lot of the four of us over the next two weeks. Hope you're enjoying the story as it unfolds.
(The rest of day two is here, in photos. Patrick thinks it's a bit unfair that I have a good camera (Canon T1i) and lens (50 mm). Like I have an advantage because I have good equipment. Then I tried to explain the ratio of photography - what percentage talent, equipment, right place/right time it takes to get a good photo. What do you think the ratio is?)

I like the interview questions... very fun and revealing.
Great photos as usual. I'm not sure what the ratio is exactly, but I know talent is a HUGE component. (And one I wish I had.)
Gwen, I just loooove your joy-capacity. (I have a sense that it's unlimited.) Fun interview, and the photos w/ gadgets is tops.
Photography: well, I know you can have a camera case of talent, but if the camera can't keep up with you, the ceiling is pretty low. Due to the interplay of variables, I don't think it can be broken down into simple percentages.
While we're on the subject, I'm curious - do you edit your photos, or shuffle them straight from camera to flickr? Many of your photos have a beautiful quality, sorta pushed-contrast, desaturated in some ways, supersaturated in others. If you'd rather keep it a secret, you can DM me instead! :)
Wow, I think Patrick's answer to the three words question sums him up completely! In a good way :)
I love these posts, please keep them up!
Bryce You know I want to tell you, but... *smile* Ok, I do some post-edits on every photo. Whether cropping or altering saturation/contrast levels. I'm not totally self-taught - I've taken a few lessons here & there (one of which was with the amazing @lizellelotter) - but most of it is gut. Like you!
Oh my goodness! Looks like an amazing trip!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it love it love it :)
