Japan Day 0: Misadventures with an O-Ring
Due to some faulty O-rings we sit on the Tarmac at Denver for two hours and ten minutes. Making us two hours and ten minutes late to San Francisco. Making the plane that was going to take us to Tokyo be already taken off.
After landing we stand in line for about two hours at the customer service desk (at one point I count fifty passengers in line to get rebooked - and at that point there was only one person working the desk). Some long faces, tired children and grumpy grown ups in line.
A night in a chintzy hotel in San Francisco. "Zen Peninsula" is the only restaurant in the area - obviously not the Zen Peninsula I want to be exploring right now. But at least I was able to take a shower with gentle essence.
Check-in at 10:10 for Japan Airlines the next day and the news we were upgraded to Premium Economy. Which is Economy except a hundred times better. I just added "Fly Premium Economy or better every international flight," to my personal manifesto.

Oh I'm so sorry... flight delays are a drag anytime, but when flying overseas... big hassle!!!
Just be glad you're not 5 months pregnant with a nursing 2 year old and no stroller b/c the airline that delayed you and left you stranded on the wrong continent lost it. (No I'm not bitter. LOL)
where sometimes a bad thing is a good thing... slightly delayed! Hopefully the improved flight experience will make you arrive fresher and make up for the lost time!
Susan What!? Yeah, I'd be bitter, alright...
