"When you think about privacy you have to think about how intimate our use of technology has become," he says. "When someone is worried about a social or medical issue, about their sexuality or whether they have cancer, they can put their trust in the complete secrecy of the web. Maybe they are a minor, and too embarrassed to go through their parents. It's important to preserve the ability to do things over the internet that are very intimate." - Tim Berners-Lee
Seeing some brave shit come out of #gaman.
I released Align Your Website in October 2013 before I left America.
I released it from Oakland, while living in a house with fellow programmers. Align is my best-selling work to date. It's a digital book, it's a guide. It's the way to get your digital self and your actual self in alignment.
Your site is a reflection of the true you. Which I guess is why, when I ask you for your site address, you shy away from telling me. Worse, you apologize for it. Or, you cup your hand over your mouth and say, "well, I'm on Fxxx--- oh, nevermind. You're not, of course."
I am not. Of course.
Why have a site up you're not proud of? Why leave a site out there to be used as a digital doormat? Why continue to pay annual hosting and domain name fees on something that doesn't make any money for you?
Worse. Why stay in a site that's chipping away at your spirit? I don't get it.
I don't get it, so I wrote Align Your Website. I wrote it for the first time in 2011 as I realigned mine. Then, I wrote it from scratch in Oakland in 2013, again as I aligned my own. This time, I built the container from scratch with Bitters. I built it from scratch because I'd tried every other platform out there, and they are all disappointing.
I wanted a site that is minimalist, responsive, light. I wanted the work I put in it to be honest, fresh and beneficial to others. So, I built my own digital house. Maybe you're satisfied in a corporate-sponsored blue dorm, but I am not. Maybe you are sick of the tired old digs and you're ready to roll your own. My deepest concern is you won't, because you're a combination of lazy and apathetic.
Still. If you decide to, Align is here. Introduction and chapter titles, here.
