I still haven’t bought Guitar Hero, but that’s next on my list (even though I’ve heard very mixed reviews on it). I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on the DS since everyone got one at the party last week. Here’s what I’m hearing:

1) I used to want to hang out with you. Now I just want to hang out with you around so I can borrow your DS. (Ok, he didn’t use those exact words, and he’s only six, but you get my meaning…)

2) When I first got the DS I figured I’d give it to my husband/boyfriend/brother/minions but now I’m like, “what was I thinking!? I love playing this thing.”

3) It comes in handy when babysitting. Very handy. And for some reason, I’ve babysat more in the past week than I have in the past five years. Coincidence much?

4) If you go into a game store as a woman in your prime, expect preferential treatment.

5) Even though many of my friends are loving getting comfortable with their first game system, it’s not some obsessive compulsive thing. Not one of the girls I know have emailed me about their thumbs locking up, falling behind in their work or skipping meals to play. We play when we want to, on our own terms…and we’re able to do other things while we play. A guy friend recently told me that if the building were on fire and here were gaming, he wouldn’t notice. Thus, I declare women superior game-players in the making. It may take some time, but we’re catching up.
