Boulder Reviews

Need a Place to Hide Out for an Hour in Boulder? Try Tee & Cakes. Not a Calorie in Sight

You’re in luck. I’m going to share my secret hideouts* around Boulder with you so that you can enjoy them, too. And help keep these places in business. Because a coffee shop or restaurant on or around Pearl is like (fill in metaphor here for something that’s around for a minute and gone in the blink of an eye) yeah.

I’m going to review places in Boulder that I actually dig and get a good vibe out of visiting. I’m not going to do 1 or 2 star review places (unless it was just so bad you will laugh when you hear the story). I strive to review places that get my thumbs up. I accept no bribes. *cough*

First up is Tee & Cakes on Walnut & 14th (formerly Cafe M). Slightly disgruntled baristas greet you with wry smiles. The cupcakes greet you with sprinkles, promises of mint and sugar highs. According to their website they have different flavors every day of the week. And donuts on Fridays!

You must visit Tee & Cakes. Food is reasonably priced ($1-2) except for the egg & cheese sandwich ($4) which is straight-up boring. And I hear Lindsay’s, near Haagen-Dasz does a much better one.**

When you go in, say hi to Brian Wood, the owner & designer. He’ll be the one with slightly tousled hair.

If you’re the type of person that likes to read reviews for the hell of it, here’s the Boulder Weekly round-up of Boulder 2007. If you’ve got a hot tip, (especially regarding good places to hide out and be productive for 1-2 hours) holler at me.

*Technologists that coffee-shop-hop, I love ya. I am the same as you, a laptop-packing boot-strapper. And I got to say: any of these places I review I hope that you’ll actually buy at least one beverage an hour. I know a lot of the owners of these places personally and you’re welcome there, as long as you help pay the rent. Kindly refrain from being a Wi-Fi Leech. Ta.

**Thanks to Jeff Ledoux for the tip!

***Bonus: Tee & Cakes now have point cards that allow you to get an eleventh drink free. Pick one up.
