Long live the Outback Saloon...the only place where a guy named Lynn sings Neil Diamond and a girl named Robbie asks "Why can't we be friends?" Or maybe it's the third of the nine other karaoke bars that have that.

Did you know that the word karaoke is a short form of the japanese kara orukesutra, meaning "empty/without an orchestra" This is the same kara as in "karate" meaning "empty fist" Try that at your next coctail party!

Gwen, best karaoke post EVER! :) My sister-in-law is FABULOUS at karaoke, for many of the reasons you listed. She gets just drunk enough to totally let loose...and she's got a good enough voice that she REALLY lets loose when she's loose. She gets into it, but not in an obnoxious way (if there even IS such a thing in karaoke). They brought in a karaoke machine for their home Xmas party last year...and as you can imagine, it was a HUGE hit. :)

Rockstar!

I've always been in favor of the beginner tip: if you're scared or unprepared, find a song everyone knows and loves. Stage-fright increases exponentially when you're introducing new tunes and can't rock it out.
