Pro Blogging Session (blogher day 2)

Arieanna Schweber, Jody DeVere, Paula Neal Mooney, Stefania Pomponi Butler, Chloe Spencer

Amount of money you can make on your blog?

Used to be about 5$ a post two years ago.  Some people are making $1000/month or more on the panel.  But the amount per post is arbitrary according to Stefania.

Jody hires many employees and pays two full-time & one part-time blogger.  She started her brick & mortar business on a blog.  She joined a typepad community and got her blog featured, which really helped her SEO.  Some of her biggest mistakes were blogging late into the night, posting and then finding in the morning, post-syndication, that they were full of mistakes.  Be careful, because as soon as it’s posted, it goes into syndication.
Chloe is 16 and she makes 30$ a day blogging.

Arieanna makes 6 figures a year blogging but she manages like 50 blogs or something.  She said that an advertiser is probably not going to go with you if you’re using a blogger template.  You should have stellar design.  She knows a lot about promotion and SEO.  Obviously.

For instance:

Strong Keywords at front of titles, appropriately name images xxxx-xxxx.jpg (google reads it as two separate words if it’s hyphenated —doesn’t work with underscores!  oops), and a good alt description.  Categories must be good.  It’s hard to go back and change them.  Root of category is set– so set them up right from the get-go.

What to do when somebody steals your content?

Ignore it?   I say, go the panic.com route and friggin’ call people out!!
